OK, I tried to keep from getting too political on my blog, but I have to share my dismay at the news that Mitt Romney has suspended his campaign.
Now, I can't deny that I appreciate that we share the same religion, which almost certainly ensured that we would agree on some of the social issues, at least to some degree, but my support goes far beyond that, and if it meant he would have had a wider appeal, I almost wish Romney wasn't LDS (as long as his platform stayed entirely the same) - I would have liked him just the same. His success with his various ventures in business, as Governor of Massachusetts and with the Olympics gave me confidence that he would have the talent and skill to turn things around in the government that desperately need attention and revitalize our sluggish economy. I know he supports conservative principles and would have appointed conservative judges to the Supreme Court. I believe he has ideas for education and health care reform that wouldn't result in huge tax increases and entitlement programs like the ones the Democrat candidates have proposed.
I'm disappointed that this has gone from a race where I had a candidate I really felt excited about and who I really felt I could get behind to yet another "lesser of two evils" election. A friend of mine suggested casting a write-in vote for Romney in November, and I'm pretty sure that's what I'm going to do (granted, I can get away with that, since I have a pretty strong inkling of how my state's going to swing, even without my vote!) I just hope we see Romney back in 2012!

I know, I am sad too!!!
I have to agree with being disappointed about another 'lesser of 2 evils' election. That seems to happen far too often. I actually like Obama though and since the GOP never really had a chance this time around I'm hoping that he can rise to the occasion. It's going to be very interesting to see who wins the primary for the democrats....it will be very telling.
I agree! Even though technically I can't vote, being an alien and all! :)
