It's a Nailbiter

Jared's a politics junkie, and he's bringing me around, as well. To him, Election Night is better than Christmas Eve. We snuggle up on the couch, watch the returns, and listen to the pundits do their thing. Now, of course, tonight it's just a primary election, and not even the "final" nominations, but we're still pretty much glued to the television. I may need to find a bar of soap to wash my mouth out with after all the "stupids" and "dummies" that are flying out of it. Hopefully things will start looking up once the polls in the West close.

On a related note, I took the kids with me to vote today. As we were going in, Audrey asks me, "Is it going to be boring?" I told her it probably would be, but it would be over quickly. As it was, the kids were actually pretty fascinated with the whole process. Their favorites were the flip-up chairs in the school auditorium where the voting was held and the fun-size candy bars that were handed out after we voted. They were also pretty interested in the voting machine, asking me, "How does that work?" "Can I try?" and "Is it shooting?" (due to the punching noise). I do feel it was somewhat educational, though, as Audrey learned the answers to questions like "What's voting?" and "What's a President?" When I described to her some of the duties of the President, she told me she thought President Hinckley would make a good President. I had to remind her he's no longer with us, but honestly, I think she's right. He would have been a great President.

What a great idea, to take kids to teach them about the process. It is a great priority to place in the minds of children!!!
