First it was funny...

But now, it's just plain scary! Could my daughter BE any more impressionable (yes, I've been watching "Friends" lately).

The other day we were at the store, buying batteries. Audrey points to the Energizers and says, "Mom, we should buy these ones. They never stop, they just keep going, and going, and going forever!"

Then, yesterday, we were at Costco. I was picking up some Children's Motrin for Adam, whose ears seem to be bothering him a bit lately. Audrey spots the Sudafed and says, "Oh, Mom, I know what this is for - I saw it on the television! It's medicine for when your head starts to grow really, really big. You just have to take one of these, and poof! your head shrinks back to just the right size, how it was before."

Well, the message may have gotten lost a bit on the Sudafed, but still, I can't believe all that she's getting from these commercials! I guess I'm just not used to her watching commercials - before we got cable a couple of months ago, it was PBS (which is commercial-free, of course) or movies (also commercial-free). Not that she's picked up anything "bad" from the commercials (yet!), but I am just realizing that I'm going to have to be a lot more cautious about monitoring what she's watching, because she's clearly picking up a lot of information from the TV!

Adam gave us quite a scare last night! I was in my room, folding laundry, and he was in the kids' bathroom, brushing his teeth. I hear a thump, and then a cry. He comes running into my room, and I snuggle him for a minute. I look down at my hand, and it's all bloody. I'm trying to figure out where it came from - look at his chin, his mouth, his nose, he seems fine. I finally realize it might be the back of his head, turn him around, and sure enough, he's got lots of blood in his hair. I had a hard time getting it cleaned up enough to assess the damage (since it was all in his hair) and finally determined all that blood was coming from a tiny little 1/4 - 1/2" gash in the back of his head. So, he's fine, but for a minute there I was trying to figure out the logistics of taking him in to get stitched up with Jared out of town and Audrey in tow. Luckily that wasn't necessary, but I think Adam just wants to keep me on my toes. He did have fun playing around with the washcloth I used to clean up his head. He and Audrey thought it was hilarious to lay it on top of his head. Incidentally, he'd tipped the stepstool he was standing on over, and fell over backwards, hitting the corner of the bathroom drawer (that was pulled open) on the way down. Of course, he's back to climbing all over the stools again. If that kid makes it to Kindergarten, it will be a miracle!

Glad Adam is ok! Head wounds really bleed a lot. And the TV thing...it is scary how much they pick up, I have nothing really great to offer up as advice, but watching shows with them really helps, you can comment on things etc.

Scary about Adam's head! Way to keep your cool and assess the situation before jetting over to the ER! I'm glad he's okay ... and that you are too!

I'm finding that it's not just tv that makes an impression. I volunteered in Jake's preschool class yesterday, and I was talking to Matt about the kids in class (who acts up, who's smart, etc.), and I totally had to check myself because little ears were definitely listening!

That would've freaked me out! I don't do well with the blood thing, especially from the head. Anyway, I hope you can come out and play tonight girl!!!

I'm so glad my son isn't the only impressionable one. Nathaniel is 6, and can quote back, word for word, any ad he's ever read in a magazine (we don't watch TV, but he still manages to get all his advertising via the written word). Crazy!

It's a miracle there are any adult humans. Heck- it's a miracle we make it outta the womb. Who am I kidding- does anybody know how so many of us are made at all?! (Sad that I'm in Human Sexuality and I'm havin to ask. Tut tut.)
