We went to a Stake Christmas Music Fireside last night, and the kids are now enamored with the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah. It's so cute to hear it, especially out of little Adam. He has quite the ear for music, I think. There was some orchestral accompaniment to some of the musical numbers last night, and at the beginning of one, he cries out "Trumpet!" It was indeed a trumpet playing. I do need to give credit where credit is due, though - the "Trumpet!" cry was quickly followed by, "Like Quincy!" (a character on the Little Einsteins TV show who plays the trumpet). The trumpet thing wasn't a total fluke though, like I thought it might have been - later, he called out "Flute!" and that was a positive ID, too. Glad to know the television may not be totally rotting my children's brains.
Hallelujah! is also because the Christmas calendars are very nearly done! Just a couple more pictures to be printed that didn't come out right the first time around, then off to the copy center to have them copied and bound. I'm hoping to get it all done tomorrow. This is just for my side, though. If any of you Smiths want to see a calendar, you'd better get me some pictures (thank you, Josh and Alisa, for the pictures you sent!).
I can't believe Christmas is in 2 short weeks. I've had a hard time getting in the "spirit" this year, but I'm trying. I've really enjoyed the holiday gatherings I've been able to attend so far (Primary Teacher Appreciation Dinner, girls' party, family dinner on Sunday) and look forward to a few more. I really can't wait for the 21st when family starts arriving from out of town. I will have ALL members of BOTH sides of immediate family (i.e., Jared's parents and all of his siblings and my parents and all of my siblings). So, lots of family time ahead. I'm looking forward to it!

That is awesome that Adam can identify which instruments are playing! Amazing! That is great that they are into the Hallelujah Chorus!!! I am also having a hard time getting into the Christmas mood. You know it is bad when your husband finally goes out and buys the Christmas tree for the family and puts it up with the kids (this happened about a week ago and remains our only Christmas decoration up!)
I can't believe how OLD your kids look! it's been sooo long since I've seen them!
